Textos clásicos y sus aportes al canon, o un texto clásico no nace, se hace

Abstract

En este artículo se analizan las importantes contribuciones de Gayle Rubin y Joan Scott a los estudios de género y por qué se han vuelto clásicos. Se exploran también algunas coincidencias en cuanto a la integración del género y la historia social a los estudios académicos. Asimismo, se analiza la forma en que Joan Scott y E.P. Thompson utilizan “experiencia”, como categoría de análisis y estrategia para hacer otro tipo de historia, de género o clase, como evidencia para cuestionar las viejas narrativas de la historia normativa.

Abstract: This article discusses how and why seminal contributions by Joan Scott and Gayle Rubin became gender studies classics. Some coincidences in the reception of work by E.P. Thompson and Joan Scott within the academic community of historians are explored. An analysis of the use of “experience” as a category serving the purpose of expanding the range of historically relevant subjects in Thompson and Scott is presented. Finally, the article argues that the inclusion of gender perspective as a legitimate academic approach is indebted to the avenues opened, a few decades prior, by social history.
